Night shift
So how many of you out there are sharing the child-rearing responsibilites by working odd hours so one parent can always be home with the child? Just wondering how it's working for those folks. We're considering having Jon take up nights in the fall so he would be home with Mac while I work afternoons. Will it really kill our family?

We talked about doing that when Gabby came alone... but in the end, it worked better to have one of us stay home full time. Yes, our income was cut in half, but it was worth it to us to know that our daughter is safe with one of us, and we get to see each other everyday. Chris is a stay at home dad, and has been since August. He enjoys it most of the time too. Now, I am done for the summer and we are moving to PEI... I get to do the Stay at home mom thing, and he will go to work. But, I will have two babies and a whinny tween!
I was raised by a mom who was home during the day and sold home decorations through private parties in peoples homes at nights. My dad is a teacher at a local community college, so he was home in the evenings. Mom didn't work every night, so they were able to also spend time parenting together. Now that we are foster parents we go on a case by case basis on the whole daycare thing. There are good centers out there, in fact I recently left a teaching position in a private children's academy and can see positives on both sides. Many things can be gained whichever you choose, but you and your husband need to see each other and carry on your relationship as well.
